Moscow Mule

Moscow Mule

Moscow-Mule-02

It’s been awhile since we posted a cocktail! This is another creation with a misleading name…the drink is so named only because of the perception of vodka as a Russian product. In reality, the drink was invented in the US in the 1940’s when a spirits distributor and a ginger beer producer got together and created a drink that would make them a little money. It then became popular during the 1950s vodka craze. So, for those of you that don’t know (as I didn’t up until yesterday), a Moscow mule is a cocktail made with vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a wedge of lime. The combination is a winner…I wasn’t sure that the ginger beer and lime would work together but the earthy spice of the ginger beer is actually a great contrast to the brightness of the lime juice and the subtle burn of the vodka. The drink is traditionally served in a copper mug but we had to use a glass since we seem to be running a bit low on copper mugs at the moment. Cheers!

Classic Daiquiri

Classic Daiquiri

Daiquiri’s have a bad rap (in my opinion) for a good reason. If you order a daiquiri in a restaurant it will most likely be very sugary, very fruity, or slushy and served from a machine…all traits that an authentic, classic daiquiri doesn’t have. Before we made our own daiquiris I had no idea whatContinue Reading

Classic Mojito

Classic Mojito

So far, there is only one drink that Katryn and I have found that can tear us away from our beloved Margarita: the Mojito! There is something magical about the way the rum, mint, and lime mix to create the perfect refreshing drink to help enjoy the weekend or to unwind after a long dayContinue Reading

Tamarind Margarita

Tamarind Margarita

For Nathan and I, margaritas are very much an every day a year round beverage. During the winter, a margarita brightens a dreary day with hints of summer and during the summer, the margarita is a light and refreshing respite from the DC heat and humidity. To be perfectly honest, we’ve come to the point of notContinue Reading

Summer Sorbets

Summer Sorbets

Yes, we are posting ice cream two weeks in a row… it’s just too hot in Washington D.C. to eat anything other than a tasty frozen treat. We wanted to simply bring you a post that  reflects (and tries to alleviate) the record-breaking heat and humidity that the area has experienced over the last fewContinue Reading
