Fudge Brownies

The recipe for these brownies is one of the only recipes that I have completely memorized backwards and forwards. They are the first thing I learned how to bake and I’m fairly confident I could make them in my sleep….I think my mom and my sister could say the same! I have tried other brownie recipes over the years, but I keep coming back to this recipe because, I can honestly say, it’s the best! These brownies are always a crowd-pleaser, are super easy, and done in less than an hour from start to finish. I love them because they are endlessly versatile and accepting of stir-ins and toppings. During the holidays, my mom adds peppermint pieces (delicious!) and I also love stirring in coconut or mini chocolate chips. The BEST thing about these brownies is how fudgey they are!

(Mom, please forgive me for divulging a secret family recipe!)

 

Fudge Brownies:

Ingredients:

½ cup butter
2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate (I use Baker’s brand)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
¾ cup flour

Possible mix-ins: Coconut, peanut butter, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, peppermint candies…anything you want! Sprinkle with powdered sugar to give them an elegant touch.

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350º F. Melt butter and chocolate in a small saucepan over medium heat. Remove saucepan from heat and stir in sugar. Blend in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla. Stir in flour, just until blended. Do not overstir! Spread batter in buttered 8 x 8 in. glass baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes…do not overbake! Cool and cut into squares.
