The Cosmo

The Cosmo

An unexpected positive side effect of Nathan’s martini experimentations was that it inspired me to create another iconic Vodka based beverage…the classic Cosmo. While Nathan was busy with his vermouth, olives, gin and vodka I was being industrious with my cranberry juice, lime juice, and Triple Sec. I guess that’s why the Cosmo has gotten it’s pervasive reputation as a ‘girly, wussy drink’…because it’s perfect for those of who can’t handle a martini and would prefer something more tart, fruity, and, well, perfectly pink. Don’t get me wrong though…our Cosmo is not a syrupy sweet, weak drink. It’s tart from the cranberry juice and lime juice, only slightly sweet and, let’s be honest, it’s quite strong. If you don’t like the flavor of vodka, the color pink, slightly passe drinks, or the 90’s you may not like this drink but for the rest of us it’s a pleasantly surprising cocktail that’s worth a try!

The Cosmo:

Ingredients:

3 ounces vodka (two shots)
1 ounce triple sec or Cointreau
1 ounce cranberry juice
1 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice

(increase triple sec if you want the drink sweeter, the cranberry juice of you want it more watered down, or increase the lime juice if you like it more tart.)

Directions:

Add all ingredients into a drink mixer with ice and shake. Pour into martini glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

Learning to appreciate the Martini: Part 1

Learning to appreciate the Martini: Part 1

When I think of the most sophisticated beverage, the classic Martini is the first thing that comes to mind. It conjures images of James Bond, Marilyn Monroe, and Grace Kelly and it just seems to ooze classic glamour. It’s even been called “the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet.” Well, I can tellContinue Reading

The Dark and Stormy

The Dark and Stormy

This cocktail has been about three months in the making. Back in November we were looking for a winter ‘staple’ cocktail and were intrigued by the name and ingredients of the classic ‘Dark and Stormy’. The name of this drink pretty much sums up the winter we’ve had, right? However, when we made it backContinue Reading

Whiskey Sour

Whiskey Sour

The weekend just doesn’t feel right to us without at least one leisurely happy hour involving a margarita or mojito and a game of scrabble (yeah, yeah, we know we’re dorks). As we’ve mentioned many times, these summery cocktails are our top favorite mixed beverages and we love the limey tartness and slightly sweet refreshmentContinue Reading

White Sangria

White Sangria

Sangria is another one of those drinks that can be really good or really bad. Personally, I can’t stand sangria that takes a nice bottle of white wine and turns it into a sugary fruit juice. In my mind, sangria should be a light, tart, fruity, and refreshing cocktail that has just a hint ofContinue Reading
