Cider Appletini

Cider Appletini

Appletini-024

Appletinis are the joke of the cocktail world and the embarrassing distant cousin of the more sophisticated and elegant classic martini. They’re a mainstay on the menu of mediocre chain restaurants and never to be seen at bars where cocktails are handcrafted or artisanal. I decided it would be a fun fall challenge to update this neon green, sugary travesty into a ‘cidertini’ cocktail that features more pure apple flavors and a blend of vodka, gin, cider, and Lillet Blanc (a French aperitif wine.) We infused our gin with fresh apple for 24 hours…a step that mellowed the gin and (along with the addition of cider) gave the drink the unmistakable undertone of an apple orchard in October. If you’ve been scarred by appletinis in the past give this a try…I promise it will give you a new perspective!

Cider Appletini (Cidertini)

Ingredients:

For the Apple-Infused Gin:
1 and 1/2 honeycrisp apples, cored and sliced
10 ounces gin

For the Cocktail:
2 ounces Apple-Infused Gin
1 ounce Vodka
2 ounces apple cider
½ ounce Lillet Blanc
¼ ounce fresh lemon juice
Garnish: Apple Wedge

Directions:

For the Apple-Infused Gin: Place apple pieces inside resealable jar, cover with gin, seal and infuse at room temperature for 24 hours. Liquid will turn golden and look a bit like apple juice. Strain liquid through a fine mesh strainer set in a sealable glass jar. Discard solids. Infused gin keeps in the refrigerator up to 1 week.

To Make the Cocktail: Pour apple-infused Gin, Vodka, Lillet Blanc, cider, and lemon juice into a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until well chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with apple wedge.

Classic Daiquiri

Classic Daiquiri

Daiquiri’s have a bad rap (in my opinion) for a good reason. If you order a daiquiri in a restaurant it will most likely be very sugary, very fruity, or slushy and served from a machine…all traits that an authentic, classic daiquiri doesn’t have. Before we made our own daiquiris I had no idea whatContinue Reading

Rosemary Limoncello Cocktail

Rosemary Limoncello Cocktail

We’ve all heard the quote “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Well, we say, “When life gives lemons, make a cocktail out of it!” (I know, that was bad…) Anyways, We wanted to make a cocktail with our homemade limoncello and Nathan heard about this drink through word of mouth.  He was intrigued enough by theContinue Reading

The Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned

We’ve been talking about making this classic cocktail for a long time. It’s one of those drinks that just seems like it should part of every home bartender’s arsenal…probably because it’s one of America’s oldest cocktails (as it’s name suggests.) Like most classic cocktails it has very few ingredients (whiskey, bitters, and a bit ofContinue Reading

The Cosmo

The Cosmo

An unexpected positive side effect of Nathan’s martini experimentations was that it inspired me to create another iconic Vodka based beverage…the classic Cosmo. While Nathan was busy with his vermouth, olives, gin and vodka I was being industrious with my cranberry juice, lime juice, and Triple Sec. I guess that’s why the Cosmo has gottenContinue Reading
