Whiskey Peach Smash

Whiskey Peach Smash

WHISKEY PEACH SMASH

People sometimes ask me if we ever have total failures in the kitchen and the answer is yes! This post was actually supposed to be a Juicy Lucy burger recipe (a burger cooked with cheese inside) but the burgers fell short of our expectations on so many levels that we had to come up with a Plan B. It turned out to be a happy accident because this Whiskey Peach Smash is the best frozen drink we’ve ever made and one of the best cocktails overall that I’ve had. It was that good! It also helps that it’s the height of peach season and that today was in the 90’s… this drink is summery, refreshing and perfect for all those extra peaches you’re looking for something to do with. The drink has a very strong peach flavor that is brightened by a hint of lemon juice and deepened by the whiskey and touch of mint…the flavor is complex without being muddy or overly sweet in any way. Here’s the secret to frozen cocktails: freeze ALL the ingredients except the liquor before you attempt the drink. We’ve found that if the majority of the ingredients aren’t frozen and you have to add ice the drink turns out watery and chunky…nobody wants that. Try this recipe! I’ve never been so happy about a kitchen failure.

Note: we doubled this recipe to make two drinks in order to give our blender enough ingredients to ‘grip’. Less ingredients may not blend well.

Ingredients:

1 Peach, frozen
1 Ounce simple syrup, frozen
Juice from 1/2 lemon, frozen
2-4 ounces whiskey (depending on desired strength)
4 mint leaves

Directions:

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until peach is pureed and ingredients are mixed. (If you aren’t sure how strong you want the drink to be start with 2 ounces of whiskey to start and add more to taste as required.)

Nathan and I traveled to Chicago last week for both work and play. We wanted to eat at some of the popular restaurants but seeing as we were trying to make reservations for the same day and many of the restaurants only had reservations a month out (!?) we had to do something else. TheContinue Reading

Caipirinha

Caipirinha

If you’ve been following Rampant Cuisine for any length of time you know that our top three mixed drinks are the margarita, the mojito, and the whisky sour (our homemade versions..I can’t speak for the too sweet versions that are often served in restaurants/bars!) I would like to now announce that the caipirinha will beContinue Reading

Moscow Mule

Moscow Mule

It’s been awhile since we posted a cocktail! This is another creation with a misleading name…the drink is so named only because of the perception of vodka as a Russian product. In reality, the drink was invented in the US in the 1940’s when a spirits distributor and a ginger beer producer got together andContinue Reading

Bellini

Bellini

Once upon a time we took a shot at making peach pancakes and some ‘peach mimosas’ as we called them. Well, the whole breakfast was a bit of a let down and little did we know that a ‘peach mimosa’ was already a thing (since the 1930s) and it happened to be called a Bellini.Continue Reading
