Nathan and I traveled to Chicago last week for both work and play. We wanted to eat at some of the popular restaurants but seeing as we were trying to make reservations for the same day and many of the restaurants only had reservations a month out (!?) we had to do something else. The last time we were in Chicago we ate at a Mexican restaurant called Cantina Laredo. We loved the food, the design of the restaurant, and especially the mixed drinks. Most Mexican restaurants give you watered down, overly sweet margaritas and mojitos but this place does them right! So, out of options and being creatures of habit, we decided to head back to Cantina Laredo for happy hour and dinner yet again. This time we noticed a drink on the menu called the Ginger Paloma and wanted to give it a shot for the blog. For this post we left out the ginger and made a more traditional paloma with grapefruit juice, lime juice, seltzer, simple syrup, and blanco tequila. For a quick and easy paloma you can also use Fresca or other grapefruit soda instead of the grapefruit and seltzer.

Caipirinha

Caipirinha

If you’ve been following Rampant Cuisine for any length of time you know that our top three mixed drinks are the margarita, the mojito, and the whisky sour (our homemade versions..I can’t speak for the too sweet versions that are often served in restaurants/bars!) I would like to now announce that the caipirinha will beContinue Reading

Moscow Mule

Moscow Mule

It’s been awhile since we posted a cocktail! This is another creation with a misleading name…the drink is so named only because of the perception of vodka as a Russian product. In reality, the drink was invented in the US in the 1940’s when a spirits distributor and a ginger beer producer got together andContinue Reading

Bellini

Bellini

Once upon a time we took a shot at making peach pancakes and some ‘peach mimosas’ as we called them. Well, the whole breakfast was a bit of a let down and little did we know that a ‘peach mimosa’ was already a thing (since the 1930s) and it happened to be called a Bellini.Continue Reading

Chocolate Martini

Chocolate Martini

There’s a restaurant in DC that’s near and dear to my heart because it’s where we went for my bachelorette party AND because they specialize in all things chocolate. They have THE best chocolate inspired cocktails and desserts and call themselves a ‘Chocolate Lounge & Boutique.’ Need I say more? I’m actually surprised it’s takenContinue Reading
