Moscow Mule

Moscow Mule

Moscow-Mule-02

It’s been awhile since we posted a cocktail! This is another creation with a misleading name…the drink is so named only because of the perception of vodka as a Russian product. In reality, the drink was invented in the US in the 1940’s when a spirits distributor and a ginger beer producer got together and created a drink that would make them a little money. It then became popular during the 1950s vodka craze. So, for those of you that don’t know (as I didn’t up until yesterday), a Moscow mule is a cocktail made with vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a wedge of lime. The combination is a winner…I wasn’t sure that the ginger beer and lime would work together but the earthy spice of the ginger beer is actually a great contrast to the brightness of the lime juice and the subtle burn of the vodka. The drink is traditionally served in a copper mug but we had to use a glass since we seem to be running a bit low on copper mugs at the moment. Cheers!

Bellini

Bellini

Once upon a time we took a shot at making peach pancakes and some ‘peach mimosas’ as we called them. Well, the whole breakfast was a bit of a let down and little did we know that a ‘peach mimosa’ was already a thing (since the 1930s) and it happened to be called a Bellini.Continue Reading

Chocolate Martini

Chocolate Martini

There’s a restaurant in DC that’s near and dear to my heart because it’s where we went for my bachelorette party AND because they specialize in all things chocolate. They have THE best chocolate inspired cocktails and desserts and call themselves a ‘Chocolate Lounge & Boutique.’ Need I say more? I’m actually surprised it’s takenContinue Reading

Cider Appletini

Cider Appletini

Appletinis are the joke of the cocktail world and the embarrassing distant cousin of the more sophisticated and elegant classic martini. They’re a mainstay on the menu of mediocre chain restaurants and never to be seen at bars where cocktails are handcrafted or artisanal. I decided it would be a fun fall challenge to updateContinue Reading

Classic Daiquiri

Classic Daiquiri

Daiquiri’s have a bad rap (in my opinion) for a good reason. If you order a daiquiri in a restaurant it will most likely be very sugary, very fruity, or slushy and served from a machine…all traits that an authentic, classic daiquiri doesn’t have. Before we made our own daiquiris I had no idea whatContinue Reading
