Sidecar

Let me introduce my new third favorite cocktail…the Sidecar. It comes, of course, just after the Whiskey sour (my favorite during winter) and the margarita (my favorite during summer.) Which means that yes, the mojito is dropping to fourth place. The reason that the Sidecar is an instant favorite is that it is actually the child of both the margarita and the whiskey sour. If you know the basic proportions that you like for either of the parent drinks then you’ve already got this classic cocktail down. As with most of the great old-timey cocktails the origin is fuzzy (created in London? Or maybe New Orleans?) so I won’t even get into it. What I will tell you is that if you’re looking for a cozy yet classy and sophisticated cocktail to sip over the holidays then the sidecar is it.

Sidecar:

Ingredients

2 shots Cognac
1 shot Lemon Juice
1 shot Triple Sec (poor man) or Cointreau (rich man)

Directions

1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker, add ice, shake, and pour into glass (on the rocks or neat).
2. Enjoy!
