Cranberry Ginger Smash


As I write this, I’m looking out of the window at the dreary start to October and feeling extremely thankful that we have no plans tonight. Crazy weeks at work have coincided with the beginning of Autumn and this special cocktail is a response to them both. It incorporates the warm, festive flavors of cinnamon and ginger with bright notes of cranberry and lemon to create a drink with complex flavors that is a wonderful way to unwind on a Saturday night. Autumn…do your worst!

Cranberry Ginger Smash

Ingredients:

24 whole cranberries
3 thin slices of ginger root
1/2 oz. cinnamon ginger simple syrup
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 oz. wet gin
1 1/2 oz. Berentzen apple liqueur

Directions:

To make the simple syrup, put 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup sugar in a small sauce pan with the stick of cinnamon and the sliced ginger. Slowly bring to a boil and remove from heat. Muddle cranberries, ginger and 1/2 oz. simple syrup together. Add the remaining ingredients. Shake and strain through a fine strainer. Pour into a glass.
